What We Do

Two practices, one advisor.

Most families need one. Some need both. Either way, you get the same person — every call, every draft, every decision.

Pillar One

Admissions Advising

An ex-insider’s read on where your student fits, what their file is actually saying, and how to make it say what they mean.

  • Prep, boarding & day schools
  • Selective colleges & universities
  • School list, essays, interviews, aid
  • Candid assessment of outcomes

Pillar Two

A career in and around the game, plus long-standing relationships across prep, junior, and college hockey — focused on the player, not the parent.

  • Prep school placement for athletes
  • NCAA D-I / D-III recruiting strategy
  • Junior hockey pathway (CHL, USHL, NAHL, BCHL, NCDC & more)
  • Agent & advisor vetting

Our Approach

Six principles that guide every engagement.

Admissions is not a formula. It is a conversation between a student and an institution, facilitated by adults who know both sides of the desk.

01

Fit before prestige

The school that says yes isn’t always the school that should. We start with the student, not the ranking.

02

Character over résumé

Admissions readers read between the lines. We help students live the line, not polish it.

03

Process, not panic

Structured timelines turn great candidates into their best selves. Deadlines become milestones.

04

Honest counsel

You hear what we actually think — about the list, the essays, and the realistic range of outcomes.

05

The family is the team

Parents, siblings, coaches, counselors — everyone in the student’s orbit is part of the plan.

06

The journey matters

What happens during the process often matters more than where the student lands.

Who We Help

Families at every stage of the journey.

Middle-school families

Eighth-graders considering prep school. School list, interviews, essays that actually sound like a fourteen-year-old.

High-school families

Sophomores, juniors, seniors navigating college admissions — from first visit to final decision.

Student-athletes

Admissions and recruiting handled as one integrated plan. Prep, junior, college, pro — all on the same map.

Families in transition

Transfers, reclass years, post-graduate decisions, international moves. Non-standard situations, handled.

The Founder

A career on both sides of the desk.

Founder & Principal Advisor

Former Assistant Director of Admissions and Head Coach of Boys Varsity Hockey at The Taft School (2017–2026). Nine years inside a prep school admissions office — reading files, interviewing students, sitting in the rooms where decisions get made.

Before Taft, a twelve-year professional hockey career that is the origin of the network Turas Prep Consulting draws on today — across prep schools, junior hockey, college programs, and the pro ranks.

The Network

Relationships built over a lifetime, put to work for one family at a time.

Two decades in the game and nine years inside admissions. A network that spans prep school admissions offices, NCAA D-I and D-III programs, the junior leagues, agents, and professional scouts.

I can tell you, in ten minutes, what the reader on the other side of your student’s application is going to see.
